Uniform

School Uniform

We actively encourage children to wear their school uniform with pride. Having a school uniform takes the 'competitive branding' element out of school and promotes equity. Please support this culture by sticking to our uniform policy, which is outlined below.

  • The Dunnikier school colour is navy, therefore, we kindly ask that any jumpers, hoodies and cardigans are plain navy. Uniform with the Dunnikier logo is available from BE Schoolwear on Kirkcaldy High Street.
  • Grey or black trousers, skirts and pinafores can be worn. Alternatively, a blue gingham summer dress can be worn.
  • Children can either wear a school shirt/blouse or a white polo shirt.
  • We understand that many children have one pair of shoes for school and for play. Wherever possible, black shoes/trainers are preferable.
  • A school tie is encouraged for photograph day and for our P7s all year round as part of their prefect role.

P.E. Kit and Outdoor Learning

Throughout the year, P.E. is delivered indoors and outdoors. Your child's gym and outdoor learning days will be communicated to you through Seesaw (P1-3) and our School Website (P4-7).

Please provide your child with a t-shirt, shorts/jogging bottoms and soft soled shoes (velcro gym shoes for younger pupils) and jogging bottoms/jumper and weather appropriate clothing for outdoor learning. Please ensure your child wears a waterproof jacket and shoes to school every day so that opportunities for outdoor learning are optimised.

We have some items of waterproof clothing, gym wear and school uniform, which has been donated to the school. Please just let us know if you need anything. You can either contact our enquiries email or let your child's class teacher know. Old uniforms can be donated to us throughout the school year.   Please look out for communications for school clothing swap shops in January and in the summer break.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.

What else should my child bring to school?

Water

Please send your child in with water from home in a clearly labelled water bottle and encourage them to bring these home each night to wash and refill for the next day. Teachers will also support children to ensure they bring their bottles home for thorough cleaning.

Other Items

  • Just one item/snack for break time - we actively encourage a healthy snack
  • a pencil case if your child would like to bring one in – this is not necessary however
  • A school bag – with their gym kit daily
  • Packed Lunch if required
  • A waterproof jacket and sensible shoes so that outdoor learning can occur at anytime.

Children will not be allowed to share items from home, please remind them of this before they start. Please do not send in personal items, e.g. toys, games, phones or trading cards.

Sending children into school with personal items from home can cause lots of problems in our playground. We have plenty to keep them entertained.
